TRC Associate Consultant Lisa Choegyal experienced an exciting trip across the Lake Khövsgöl ice road to Khatgal this week. Extreme temperatures of minus 33 degrees Celsius at midday meant that drivers had to keep a wary eye out for pressure ridges caused by the expansion and contraction of surface ice. According to Lisa, “The ice was cracking and creaking with gun shot booms and a large crack around the village of Khankh required the assistance of the governor’s vehicle to navigate.” The drivers from tour operator and project partner Mongolia Quest were excellent and the team arrived safely in Khatgal to run the next round of eco-tourism training.
