Master Visitor Plan for the Wallabi Group of the Houtman Abrolhos Islands

Plan for development, management and interpretation of heritage and nature based tourism on a remote island group off the coast of Western Australia. The recommendations are for activities and developments that are compatible with protection of the islands’ significant marine and terrestrial environments and the site of the 1629 shipwreck of the Batavia.

The Batavia was a large ship of the East Indian Trading company made famous by the murderous mutiny led by Jeronimus Cornelisz. With extensive archeological work done in recent years there is keen interest in developing the island chain for tourism in a sustainable way that protects the local wildlife and fishing communities.
