TRC developed this strategy to guide local government, agencies, community and industry in coordinated development and investment in cycling opportunities for local commuting, healthy recreation, tourism, competitions and events. TRC analysed current conditions, resources and potential opportunities for the range of cycling types (including road cycling, trail riding, mountain biking and competitive cycling) in close consultation with stakeholders.
The resulting strategy is geared to achieving workable results for the region. There is a strong focus on infrastructure improvements and awareness programs to provide for safe cycling conditions and encourage more people to cycle. Development of a small suite of high-quality trail and road cycling experiences, supported by comprehensive information and cycle-friendly services is recommended. Actions are recommended to assist local business to develop cycle-friendly visitor experiences.
