This comprehensive strategy for tourism development on the south-east of New Zealand’s North Island was developed by TRC in conjunction with DMS. The Taranaki area is known for its natural areas, arts, cultural, garden and food experiences.
The strategy indicates what needs to be done for the region’s visitor offer and products to adapt to changing markets and compete with other destinations. It recommends game changing projects to act as catalysts for tourism development and enabling actions to improve the region’s capacity to deliver tourism and service visitors. Positioning and experience themes are developed to assist development of a unique destination and guidance is provided for marketing and promotion methods, channels and delivery mechanisms. Costings are estimated for recommended projects and a business case is developed for Venture Taranaki for strategy implementation.
