The study collected data from mountain bike riders between May 2016 and March 2017 to obtain demographic and spend information. Data from the 770 responses was then used by MCa (Michael Connell and Associates Economists) to model the impact of their expenditure.

The study found that mountain bikers in Queenstown generates over $25 million in income for the Queenstown region annually, generating approximately 297 direct jobs. Jimmy Carling, President of the Queenstown Mountain Bike Club, said he was amazed by the report. “We think this is quite remarkable, the data is very interesting and the spend figures are extraordinary.” The club believes that the sound analysis will be of great assistance in achieving ongoing support for the trails from government and industry.
